Overview

No tape applies after the first box, or the front tab is too short. This usually means the tape is threaded incorrectly or the tape erect plate spring has lost tension and is not snapping back into position.

Step 1 — Verify Correct Tape Threading

Improper tape threading is the most common cause. The tape must follow a precise path to erect and apply correctly to every box.

Tape path (in order):

1. Place the tape roll on the mandrel with the adhesive side facing outward.
2. Over the optimizing arm roller (non-adhesive side on top).
3. Under the one-way roller (adhesive side underneath).
4. Over the idle roller (non-adhesive side on top).
5. Under the knurled roller in the front application arm (adhesive side underneath).
6. Through the gap between the tape erect plate and two side fingers, then rest on the front application roller.

Step 2 — Replace or Free the Tape Erect Plate Spring

If the tape erect plate does not snap upright after each application, the next box will not get tape. The spring may be worn out or the plate may be blocked.

Inspect and repair:

• Manually pull the tape erect plate upward. It should snap back quickly with force.
• If it moves slowly or not at all, the spring is weak or the plate is catching.

To replace the spring:

• Part Number: 9510305 (Support Spring)
• Remove the old spring and install the new one, ensuring it hooks on both ends.

To free a stuck plate:

• Look for bent metal, dried tape, or debris blocking the plate movement.
• Clean or straighten any obstructions.
• Part for the erect plate: 9510266 (2") or 9510266-0 (3")

Maintenance Tips

• Check tape threading weekly or when changing tape rolls.
• Test the tape erect plate snap by hand at the start of each shift.
• Keep the tape path area clear of dried tape and debris.
