Introduction
This troubleshooting guide aims to assist you in resolving suction failure issues on your ELVS (Case Erector) machine. If you've encountered problems such as unsuccessful box pickup from the hopper or box dropping during forming, follow the steps below to identify and address potential causes.
Observation
- Failure to pick up the box when the suction post assembly moves forward to grab it from the hopper.
- Suction cup dropping the box while pulling it back during the forming procedure.
Possible Cause 1
Suction Leaks Through the Score Line
Solution: Relocate Suction Cups
Possible Cause 2
Incorrect Proximity Switch Position
Solution:
- Loosen the mounting screw on the proximity switch.
- Move the switch above the spring-loaded shaft.
- Engage the limit switch by the safety gate hinge to maintain power during adjustment.
4. The red LED should now be illuminated.
5. Continue pressing the limit switch while sliding the proximity sensor away from the spring-loaded shaft.
6. Stop sliding the switch when the red LED turns off.
7. Adjust the switch so that the red LED activates when the spring-loaded shaft is slightly pushed from the suction cup side.
8. The LED should not remain constantly lit.
9. Tighten the screws and verify the adjustment.
Possible Cause 3
Damaged Proximity Switch or Wire
Solution:
- If the proximity switch still doesn't activate after attempting the above steps, inspect for visible damage.
- Replace the damaged part as needed.
By following these troubleshooting steps, you can effectively address suction failure issues on your ELVS machine. If problems persist, consult the manufacturer or a qualified technician for further assistance.
Setup/Troubleshooting (Manual Mode)
No Suction
1. Vacuum motor is not running:
- Check relay 2
- Check motor starter 3
- Check thermal relay 3
2. Vacuum motor is running but no/low suction:
- Check relay 4
- Check solenoid 1 (this is near the bottom of the sealing area)
- Check the intake air filter (to much carton dust collected)
3. Vacuum pump is making a lot of noise:
- Check oil level
- Check exhaust filter inside the pump
Setup/Troubleshooting (Manual Mode)
Pickup Failure
1. Suction leaks through the score line
- Relocate suction cups
2. Proximity switch is not at the correct position
- Engage the limit switch by the safety gate hinge to make sure power is not cute off during the adjustment process
- Move the proximity switch towards the spring loaded shaft
- It should be at a location that as long as you push the spring loaded shaft slightly, the proximity switch activates (red LED light)
- Should not light up constantly
3. Wire of the proximity switch/proximity switch is damaged
- If you try the steps above the proximity switch is still not activating, check for visible damage and replace the damaged part if needed
