The Low Tape warning is a valuable feature of the BP-PLC LTNT system, designed to keep your packaging process running smoothly. This warning provides advanced notice to operators that the tape roll is running low and should be replaced soon. It's important to note that the Low Tape warning is not a fault; your machine will continue to operate normally even when the tape is running low.
Low Tape Warning Indicator
When your system detects low tape, the amber light on the machine will begin to cycle on and off at a 1-second interval. It's worth mentioning that the low tape condition is only checked when a box exits the machine after tape dispensing. Therefore, the amber light may continue to flash even after loading a new tape roll. The next box that passes through the machine will update the low tape status and turn off the Amber Light.
Sensor Placement and Adjustment
Two sensors are mounted next to the tape head, each serving a specific function:
-
No-Tape Fault Sensor: This sensor, positioned on the short bracket, is responsible for detecting no-tape faults during the packaging process.
-
Low Tape Warning Sensor: The sensor on the longer bracket, aimed at the tape roll, is dedicated to monitoring the tape roll's status and providing low tape warnings.
Sensor Adjustments
Both photo eyes have two adjustable parameters: sensitivity and Light/Dark mode.
-
Sensitivity Adjustment: The sensitivity dial controls the range of detection, offering about 270 degrees of rotation from minimum to maximum sensitivity.
-
Light/Dark (L/D) Mode: This setting defines the sensor's output state when it detects an object and provides about 90 degrees of rotation for adjustment.
Tape Fault Monitoring and Low Tape Warning
It's important to understand that Tape Fault (No-Tape/No-Cut) Monitoring and Low Tape Warning are separate functions and can operate independently of each other. In cases where nuisance tape faults are caused by a malfunctioning No-Tape Sensor, you have the option to disable these fault warnings. However, even with the tape fault monitoring disabled, you can still keep track of the tape roll status.
For situations where you are performing top/bottom sealing only and need to remove the tape head, disable tape monitoring, and adjust the sensor state accordingly, follow these guidelines:
- Low Tape Sensor Setting: Ensure that the Low Tape Sensor is set to 'D' (Dark-ON mode) for proper detection.
- Alternatively, if the tape head is not loaded, set the sensor to 'L' (Light-ON Mode).
In Dark-ON mode, the sensor's output will turn 'ON' (amber LED illumination on the sensor) only when it detects 'Low Tape.' When set to Light-ON mode, the sensor output should remain 'OFF' as there is no tape head or tape roll to detect.
By understanding these sensor adjustments and Low Tape Warning features, you can ensure that your packaging system operates efficiently and with minimal interruptions. If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our technical support team.
